Only 10 pregnant women appeared to take Jab Covid-19 on Thursday, the first day of the vaccination launch for them in Mumbai
Only 10 pregnant women appeared to take Jab Covid-19 on Thursday, the first day of the vaccination launch for them in Mumbai. While eight was given a dose in public centers, two received shots in private centers.
Medical experts and citizenship officials said the lukewarm response was caused by low awareness among pregnant women, and that gynecologists must lead in disseminating information about risks and benefits.
In Mumbai, the gynecological department of public and private hospitals has begun to spread awareness among pregnant women listed under them. “We have trained health workers in spreading consciousness,” said a citizenship official.
Eight pregnant women have taken Jab in private centers before the trip launched in the city on Thursday, taking the total number of vaccinated pregnant women up to 18.
On July 2, the Ministry of Health and family welfare approved the Covid-19 vaccination for pregnant women, which underlined that vaccination benefits were greater than their potential risks. Central guidelines say that pregnant women can take Jab at any point during pregnancy. The guidance document released by the Center said that pregnant women who developed Covid-19 are more likely to require intensive care rather than their non-pregnant colleagues, and infection during pregnancy can result in decreasing their health and can affect the fetus. These threats encourage medical experts to demand vaccination for pregnant women.
The Federation of Indian Midwifery and Gynecological Communities (Fogsi) plays an important role in encouraging the center to launch vaccines for pregnant women and nursing mothers. Vaccination for breastfeeding women starts in May. Since then, 3,646 nursing mothers have been vaccinated in the city.
