Opportunities for deaths because Covid-19 decreases to 41% by using statins, cholesterol-lowering drugs, research conducted by the University of San Diego School of Medicine California has claimed.
A study conducted by the research team from the University of California San Diego School of Medicine has stated that patients who use statins, cholesterol-lowering drugs are at the age of 41% lower than the hospital due to coronavirus (covid-19).
Speaking of research, the main writer Lori Daniels said, “When faced with this virus at the beginning of the pandemic, there are many speculators surrounding certain drugs that affect the body’s acee2 receptors, including statins, and whether they can affect Covid-19 risks. At our time Thinking that statins can inhibit SARS-COV-2 infection through their known anti-inflammatory effects and binding abilities, which have the potential to stop viral development. “
ACE2 receptors, or angiotensin-conversion enzymes 2, are the target of statin regulations, and help control blood pressure. Last year, it was found that the SARS-COV-2 virus mainly used Ace2 receptors to enter lung cells.
For their study, published in the journal Plos One, the research team used data from the Countic Cardiovascular registry of the American Heart Association. Then, they apply their original findings to 10,541 patients throughout the United States, who were hospitalized with Coronavirus. This study was conducted at 104 hospitals from January to September 2020.
Describe research, Daniels said, “We conduct more advanced analysis because we strive to control comorbidity, socio-economic status and hospital factors. This study confirmed our previous findings that statins reduce the risk of death for Covid-19.” He also said that most of the benefits emerged among patients with good medical reasons for taking medicine.
Daniels further warned that the same as other observational studies, could not be said with certainty that the reduced risk of death because Covid-19, was found related to statins, caused by its own statins. However, he hopes the findings will act as incentives for patients to continue using drugs.
Statins reduce blood cholesterol levels by blocking liver enzymes that make cholesterol. They are widely prescribed that according to the US center for disease control, 93% of patients use drugs that reduce cholesterol using statins.
