Taliban Writes To India to Resume Flights To Afghanistan

The Taliban has written to DGCA, or the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, to seek the resumption of commercial flights between India and Afghanistan (Kabul).
A letter from the hardline group was sent to DGCA earlier this month, and was being reviewed by the Civil Service Ministry.

Aimed at the Head of the DGCA Arun Kumar, the letter said the Kabul Airport – “left damaged and dysfunctional by American forces before their withdrawal” – has become operational with the help of Qatar, and that Notam (notification) in this case has been issued on September 6.

“The purpose of this letter is to maintain a smooth passenger movement between the two countries based on the signed MoU and our national operator (Ariana Afghan Airline & Kam Air) aims to start scheduled flights. India has stopped all commercial flight operations to Kabul after August 15, when the Taliban swept the capital of Afghanistan and took control of effectively against the ripped state of war.

Taliban spokesman Abdul Qahar Balki told the news agency for the suspension of international flights that had left Afghanistan abroad and preventing people from traveling or learning.

“Because the problem at Kabul International Airport has been completed and the airport is fully operational for domestic and international flights, the IEA assures all fully co-workers,” he said.

Repairs have been carried out with the help of the technical team from Qatar and Turkey, he said.

IEA is an Afghan Islamic Emirate – the term Taliban for their new government.

Earlier this month the Afghan police also returned, operating a checkpoint with Taliban troops.

A police officer told the AFP news agency that he had been recalled to work by the Taliban, who claimed to have given public amnesty to everyone who worked for the previous regime.

After the Taliban takeover, Kabul Airport was flooded by tens of thousands of Afghan citizens with despair wanting to escape, as well as foreign nationals and assistance workers waiting to be evacuated.

The Indian government operates several such flights – in coordination with the Air Force and the commercial airlines – bring back hundreds of residents, and refugees and foreigners.
