News News News!!! Netflix is ready with yet another Young Adult Fantasy Movie. The streamer has become popular for its YA Genre with the most hit movies like Kissing Booth, To all the boys I’ve loved before, and many more. With that – Kissing Booth’s Joey King is all set for her upcoming movie based on the ‘Uglies’ book series by Scott Westerfield. She has been a fan of the author’s book series for a long time and it was her who brought the series to Netflix.
What is the Plot of the movie:
As we know the movie is an adaptation of Scott Waterfield’s international best-selling novel ‘Uglies’. The book was first published in 2005 and when it became a success, it was turned into a series. Set in a world where beauty has compulsory standards, a place where everyone who turns sixteen has to be operated to wipe out any physical differences so as to make everyone pretty in accordance with an ideal standard of beauty.
The story is about a girl named Tally who can’t wait to turn sixteen and get the operation done and turn her life of an ugly into a gorgeous pretty. In her world, everyone is considered ugly until they get the extreme operation to match an ideal beauty standard. She meets her best friend Shay who shares her birthday with Tally and is also ugly, but unlike Tally Shay has her reservations about the operation and runs away a few days before her operation. On the day of Tally’s operation, she is given a choice by the government to either find her friend Shay and turn her in or never be pretty at all. To which Tally sets off on an adventure to find her runaway friend and discovers the ugly side of the pretty world which she once thought was perfect. Along the way into her adventure, she meets other runaways who show her the other side of the pretty world and reveal the government’s darkest secrets. It will be interesting to watch where the plot of the movie takes us with Tally.
Cast and crew of the ‘Uglies’:
The movie will be directed by McG (Joseph McGinty Nichol) who has also directed Blockbusters like Charlie’s Angels, Terminator Salvation, The babysitter amongst others. The script is written by Krista Vernoff (Grey’s Anatomy, Shameless, and Charmed) and Vanessa Taylor (Shape of Water, Game of Thrones, and Divergent) who are both Emmy nominated writers.
From what we hear Joey king will be starring and executive producing the film. She might be finalized as the lead role of Tally in the film. The other cast is yet to be finalized.
When can we watch the movie on Netflix?
The production of the movie is set to begin in mid-october 2021 in Atlanta USA and is set to last till January 2022 according to Production Weekly. Netflix hasn’t set a date for the movie yet but, looking at the film production schedule the movie might release in the later half of 2022.
