Australia sought to relieve pressure on overrun COVID-19 testing installations on Thursday by narrowing its description of close connections of infected people and comforting conditions for tests, as diurnal cases outgunned for the first time in the epidemic.
Australia is scuffling with the rapid-fire spread of the Omicron coronavirus variant after utmost countries eased tough restrictions, and like other countries, is laying on the largely transmittable variant being much less severe than former variants.
The rules are being relaxed to also stop asymptomatic people being forced into insulation, especially in healthcare, hospitality and airlines, and cut long lines of people forced to get PCR tests for interstate trip or because they’ve been at a public point with a verified case.
“With Omicron, we can not have hundreds of thousands of Australians and further taken out of rotation grounded on rules that were set for the Delta variant,”Prime Minister Scott Morrison told journalists.
