President Sri Lanka Gotabaya Rajapaksa stated that public emergencies throughout the country on Friday after violence protests over the country’s worst economic crisis in decades. The President requested a Tangguh law that allowed the military to arrest and detain suspects for a long time without a court because demonstrations called for their use throughout the South Asian country.
Anger against Rajapaksa’s handling of the deep economic crisis in the island country of 22 million people spun to violence on Thursday, such as hundreds of protesters clash with police for several hours. Large shortcomings of foreign currencies have left the government rajapaksa cannot pay important imports, including fuel, which causes debilitating power cuts that last up to 13 hours.
On a three-day visit to Delhi, Minister of Tamil Nadu M chief Thursday met PM Narendra Modi and urged the center to allow the state government to provide humanitarian assistance to Tamil Sri Lanka.
