The US has decided to distribute 80 million Covid-19 vaccines from its stock surplus to help global fight against pandemics. While all allocations will be planned at the end of June, the initial delivery of 25 million doses must be distributed to priorities between countries that need it most, including India.
How many doses obtained by India? And when?
According to reports, the first stage that comes to India will have around 2-3 million doses. About 75%, or 19 million, from the initial allocation of 25 million doses must be shared with countries through Covax, global initiatives to ensure fair vaccine distribution throughout the world.
Indian supplies will come from around 7 million doses of a total of 25 million that have been intended for Asia. Other countries to benefit from this grant will include Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Maldives, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, Laos, Papua New Guinea, Taiwan, Pacific Building, Pacific Islands said.
All supply of 80 million vaccines must be sent at the end of June, US officials said. Regarding 25 million doses released based on priority, US officials said that “For the coming weeks, we will work to get the dose to countries and get a shot as fast as possible.”
