Rajasthan: ‘Faulty refrigerator’ spoils 480 doses of Covishield in Banswara

A wasting incident of Vaccines Covid-19 has come out in the light of Rajasthan, where at least 480 doses of covishield were wasted, supposedly due to a defective refrigerator.

The incident was held on May 22 at a Public Health Center (PHC) in Raghunathpura Village of Banswara District. Physicians claim that the refrigerator used to store vaccination vials ceased to work and the doses of the vaccine were left frozen inside.

The problem was taken to notification by the CMHO block. Following this, a four-member team was created, led by the Director of Medical Health (WOHO), Mahendra Parmar, Dungarpur, to investigate the incident.

The team visited the hospital and asked the doctors and the hospital staff.

CMHO Parmar said the team is gathering more information and talking to the nursing staff to ask about the reason behind the waste of vaccines. He said that in the past he had issued a notice to block WOHO in this regard.

Dr. Ramchandra Sharma, a doctor at (PHC), affirmed that the news of vaccine waste was false, since these doses froze due to the defective refrigerator that was then fixed by a mechanic. He said he had given him a detailed statement to the medical research team and previous announcements sent on the subject.

In the past, the center had accused the Government of Rajasthan to deliberately lose vaccines Covid-19. However, the State Health Minister Dr. Raghu Sharma, had affirmed that Rajasthan recorded the waste of zero vaccines during the immunization boost for people in the age group of 18 to 44 years. The minister said the waste of vaccines on the road for people above 45 was also limited to only 2 percent.
