China’s Xi warns against ‘Cold War’ in Indo-Pacific

Chinese President Xi Jinping advised Thursday, November 11, 2021, against letting pressures in the Indo-Pacific beget a relapse into a Cold War intelligence.

His reflections on the sidelines of the periodic peak of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum came weeks after the US, Britain and Australia blazoned a new security alliance in the region which would see Australia make nuclear submarines. China has roughly criticised the deal.

Mr. Xi spoke in apre-recorded videotape to a CEO Summit at APEC, which is being hosted by New Zealand in a virtual format. Xi is listed to share in an online meeting with other Pacific Rim leaders including US President Joe Biden on Saturday.

In his speech,Mr. Xi said attempts to draw boundaries in the region along ideological or geopolitical lines would fail.
“The Asia-Pacific region can not and shouldn’t fall into the battle and division of the Cold War period,”Mr. Xi said.

Mr. Xi also said the region should make sure to keep force lines performing and to continue liberalising trade and investment.
“China will remain firm in advancing reform and opening up so as to add motivation to profitable development,”he said.

The most burning task in the region is to make an each- out trouble to fight the epidemic and to crop from its shadow as soon as possible, he said.
In all, APEC members regard for nearly 3 billion people and about 60 per cent of the world’s GDP. But deep pressures run through the doubtful group of 21 nations and homes that include the US, China, Taiwan, Russia and Australia.

China claims vast corridor of the South China Sea and other areas and has moved to establish a military presence, erecting islets in some disputed areas as it asserts its major claims.
Both Taiwan and China have applied to join a Pacific Rim trade pact, the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership, with Beijing saying it’ll block Taiwan’s shot on the base that the democratically governed islet refuses to accept that it’s part of socialist- ruled China.

And it remains unclear whether all APEC members will support a shot by the US to host the 2023 round of APEC meetings.
New Zealand’s Foreign Minister Nanaia Mahuta said Wednesday that APEC was innovated on agreement and that there wasn’t yet a verified host for 2023.

Officers say they’ve made significant progress during some 340 primary meetings leading up to this week’s leaders’ meeting. APEC members have agreed to reduce or exclude numerous tariffs and border holdbacks on vaccines, masks and other medical products important for fighting the epidemic.
