Mariupol evacuation will continue Monday; Pelosi leads delegation to Kyiv

The United Nations and the Red Cross International Committee began to evacuate civilians from the South Port City of Marieupol, and the operation will continue on Monday.

During his trip, Biden was expected to meet with US service members, embassy staff, senior officials in Romania and Slovakia, humanitarian assistance workers and refugees.

The journey of the First Lady followed another visit to the region by high -ranking US officials, including State Secretary Antony Blinken, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and DPR Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi said the additional support for the U.S. Ukraine is on the way to follow the Assistance Package Proposal -US President Joe Biden.

In a statement, Pelosi said the Congress delegation met with Ukraine President Volodymr Zelenskyy and “expressed our respect and gratitude to President Zelenskyy for his leadership and our admiration for the Ukrainian people for their courage in the war against the Russian evil invasion.”

Pelosi also said the delegation went to Poland “to send messages that are no longer wrong to the world: that America stands tall with our NATO allies in our support for Ukraine.”

He said the delegation would meet with Polish President Andrzej Duda and other senior officials to discuss how they could work together to support Ukraine.

Four civilians were reported dead and 11 others were injured by Russian shootings in the Donetsk region on Sunday, said the Ukraine Regional Governor that night.

Death and seven injuries are in the northern city of Lyman, Governor Pavlo Kyrylenko wrote in a telegram post. One person was also killed in the city of Bakhmut due to injuries received in the Luhannsk region, he said.

In the same post, Kyrylenko said that it was impossible to determine the number of victims in the port city that was bombed at Marieupol and the City of Volnovakha, which was controlled by the pro-Kremlin separatist.
